Bạn đạo1: Dạ ;

Bạn đạo1: Dạ ;

Bạn đạo1: Dạ ;

Bạn đạo1: Dạ ;

Bạn đạo1: Dạ ;

Bạn đạo1: Dạ ;

Bạn đạo1: Dạ ;

Cho nên, ở Phi Luật Tân, Hồng Phi Luật Tân đó, rủ người này tới nghe, người kia tới nghe, châm rồi ;

Long Hoa Vận Hội đang chờ rước

“Hư hư thật thật do mình”

DISCUSSION ON THE WAY – Volume 2 –

Fellow Believer 1: … Regarding the status of God and the Buddha in Heaven, there is only one God, whilst there are countless Buddhas; I do not know if there is any connection between them?

The Master: God, referred to as the Heavenly Father, is the one true God; as for Jesus Christ, he is merely the Son of God; do you see?

Fellow Believer 1: Yes;

The Master: There you go! So the Buddha is also merely a son of God!

Fellow Believer 1: Yes;

The Master: Why do people say, ‘as numerous as the sands of the Ganges’? Why do they say, ‘The Buddha is the mind’? It is because human beings have already become Buddhas; so, ‘as numerous as the sands of the Ganges’ Buddhas are simply ‘as numerous as the sands of the Ganges’ people—there is nothing more to it; do you see?

Fellow Believer 1: Yes;

The Master: Jesus Christ also practised compassion and learnt compassion; he too used human beings to enlighten and elevate them. And as for anyone—anyone—the Lord has said, Jesus Christ has said: ‘Whoever believes in me shall be saved’; and if one believes in the Lord, one must walk as the Lord did, act as the Lord did; do you see?

Disciple 1: Yes;

The Master: As for those who exploit the Lord, they will never be saved.

Fellow Believer 1: Yes;

The Venerable Master: Do you understand clearly now? There are countless examples: the children of Heaven, there is no shortage of them; but they serve merely as a good example to move sentient beings; there is only one such example. The Buddha and the Immortals are the same; Christ is none other than Maitreya—he too is a Buddha; learn compassion: when people are beheaded, they do not cry out; when people are beheaded, they do not seek revenge! Learn compassion.

Fellow Believer 1: Yes;

The Master: Do you see? There is only one!

Fellow Disciple 2: Sir, why does the scripture say: ‘When the Buddha was first born, he raised his hand towards Heaven and pointed his hand towards the earth, saying, “In Heaven and on Earth, I alone am supreme”’?

The Master: That phrase, now, is ‘In heaven and on earth, I alone am supreme’: right now, you’re standing here with your hand raised, aren’t you? ‘In heaven’: the divine energy descends upon the world; the world gives rise to myriad things—plants, flowers, fruits, rice and grain; ‘I alone am supreme’: must we not nourish this person? Must we not nourish you?

Fellow Disciple 1: Yes;

The Master: Well, I’m the same (laughs); I also use that phrase, “In heaven and on earth, I alone am supreme”: isn’t it a Buddha who clearly shows people to point to the self, pointing and saying, “I am supreme; I am the lord of this microcosm”! You, too, are the lord of this microcosm! ‘I alone am supreme’: does the entire universe sustain only you? Do you see?

Fellow Practitioner 2: But isn’t that the Buddha claiming it for himself…

Teacher: No! He says that, whilst now taking on a human form, He is illustrating that state so that people may understand: the entire Heaven, Earth, and the cosmos were created for all sentient beings! Not for Him alone! If it were just Him, He would say, ‘My mind is different; your mind is different’; He didn’t say that! ‘The Buddha is the mind; I am you’—that’s what He said; do you see?

Fellow Practitioner 2: Yes.

The Master: And He explains to people, ‘In heaven and on earth, I alone am supreme’: now, if you lack the vital energy, how can you live here? If you have no rice or food, how can your body grow tall and strong? ‘I alone am supreme’: does that mean you must serve only yourself? No, you must serve me as well! We all share one and the same: the entire cosmos, millions upon millions; yet there is only one! The breath of the cosmos beats as one; if it were to cease for even a minute, or a second, everything would perish—not a single soul would remain! Do you see?

Fellow Disciple 2: Yes.

The Master: We all breathe in and out; we share the same rhythm of life, the same principle of love in all things; there is really no great difference!

Fellow Disciple 2: Yes.

The Master: Do you see? The one in motion, and the one at rest; that is all; yet there is confusion, separation—Brother Three, Brother Two, Brother Four; confusion. In the end, it all boils down to one thing: learning and evolution, that is all; do you see? ‘In heaven and on earth, I alone am supreme’: it is all for oneself!

Fellow Disciple 2: Yes.

The Master: Once you understand Buddhist doctrine, it is profoundly deep: there is one truth, and one must unravel it for oneself!

Fellow Practitioner 2: Yes.

The Venerable Master: But if you don’t understand, and you get all confused, shouting and practising endlessly, going to the temple to make offerings constantly, without understanding a thing; you end up getting scared, making offerings to 3,000 Buddhas—some people worship 3,000 Buddhas; others worship 10,000 Buddhas: ‘I know the names of all 10,000 Buddhas—I’ve gone mad!’ Do you see? Then there’s: ‘I, , know that “the Buddha is the mind”; there is this one Buddha, and that is enough for me; I’ve reached the ultimate!’ You go, the Buddha goes; you’re afraid people will deceive you; you say, ‘The Buddha is the mind; the mind is the Buddha’; there is only one; do you see?

Fellow Practitioner 2: Yes. [mp3.1 - 5:00]

The Venerable Master: People make distinctions between this and that; I say: ‘One plus one is still one’; but people in the world say ‘One plus one is two’! Which is correct? ‘One plus one is two—that is correct, because my mortal eyes see two, that is correct!’ But in principle, there is only one! Do you see?

‘The union of Yin and Yang’: a man and a woman sleeping together produce only one person; yet that one person is also two—both Yin and Yang; two plus two added together still amounts to just one!

‘The Union of the Two Polarities’: Heaven and Earth unite, and there is still only one!

Yet people keep getting it all mixed up, so there’s no unity; do you see?

Disciple 2: Yes.

The Master: There is only one! The whole world sets tasks for you to do; once you’ve done them, you realise there’s nothing to it: all that maths and arithmetic—‘I studied maths and arithmetic so much, yet in the end, I hardly ever use any of it! I use them in Birth, Existence, Change, and Death; that’s all! I’m born as a human being; then I exist, I have to move about, doing this and that”; then comes death; and within that death lies life; then birth, existence, change, and death; it just keeps moving up in frequency; there’s only that one path; do you see?

Fellow Practitioner 2: Yes.

The Master: There is only one source of origin. Human beings—the more they are divided, the more they are in motion!

But when one practises to achieve unity—‘the union of opposites’—only then does tranquillity arise.

Therefore, the more one practises, the more one finds inner peace.

Once the mind is at peace, it is no longer troubled by thoughts of East, West, South or North; there are no schemes to take from this person, that person or the other, causing unrest.

‘I see only one thing: everyone is within a single truth’; no more suffering!

But for now, as long as it hasn’t been resolved, it still remains; isn’t that so? Is that clear?

Fellow Practitioner 2: Yes.

The Master: “I bow to the Buddha; if there is anything, I will speak truthfully to the Buddha”; but when the time comes for the Buddha to take stock, you hide some things! (laughs) You do not bring them out! You say, “I am not yet sufficient, I do not have it yet”; then you make all sorts of empty promises! That is turmoil, a lack of a heroic spirit: the mouth speaks like a hero, but the heart is not heroic! A heroic heart sees clearly that everything—the heavens and earth, the entire universe—is one and the same!

You’ll never lose anything; even if they take it, you can just do something else; what’s there to worry about?

It’s the Vietnamese who dare to prove this; do you see? They were stripped of everything; yet here they are, working as labourers, washing dishes and bowls, and they still have a home!

Do something else! Even at seventy or eighty, or in their eighties, they dare to take a boat out to sea; they get up to mischief, yet they still manage to eat; do you see?

Disciple 2: Yes.

The Venerable Master: Within the Void there is Existence, so there is nothing to fear!

It is the Vietnamese who realise clearly that, ‘I will never lose my possessions! As long as I’m alive, I’ll have money’; do you see?

Disciple 2: Yes.

The Venerable Master: They’re even more stable than those who have wealth nowadays: they dare to go out in a fishing boat, then head out to barren land, and get on with it; they’ve got a house to live in, and a car to drive! Do you see?

Disciple 2: Yes.

The Venerable Master: It is the Vietnamese who dare to affirm: that is the truth; there is nothing to be afraid of! Whereas those with wealth—the billionaires on this free land—are terribly afraid! Because they do not yet understand!

Disciple 2: Yes.

The Venerable Master: That is why people say that, in the future, those people have been chosen by God; they will easily become Buddhas: they dare to give up everything! What are they going in search of? If you give up everything, if you set out on a fishing boat, what are you looking for? Death, is that it!

Here, among these wealthy Canadians, is anyone seeking death like that?

Disciple 2: Yes.

The Master: Yet they dare to seek death: setting out in a boat into the open sea; is there any guarantee anyone will rescue them? Must they seek death? You’re not seeking life!

Even when travelling by aeroplane, people buy insurance; yet you’re going out on a fishing boat, you’ve got no insurance, and you say, ‘I’m off to America’, and off to America you go! How could you even think of going to America! Do you see?

Fellow Believer 2: Yes.

The Venerable Master: How could anyone even dare to think of going to America?

It’s more likely that God’s hand is at work there!

But God, why send people to such wonderful places?

To influence and awaken those who are living in comfort, who have forgotten themselves and even forgotten God, and forgotten the suffering of humanity writhing in the Celestial Mechanism’s transformation of present-day suffering.

To rouse those people to wake up, to immediately abandon such desires and return to the balanced Laws of the Creator: to love all living beings and all things according to God’s plan, so that the Earth may be restored to stability! [mp3.1-10:28]

Fellow Disciple 2: Yes.

The Master: Only the Vietnamese can learn this lesson! The Vietnamese who have come here are truly worthy of spiritual practice, and have been entrusted with the task of influencing everyone around them! Save others!

Fellow Disciple 2: Yes.

The Venerable Master: Do not think that you have come here so that they might save you!

In future, you will save others! You must learn more quickly, understand more swiftly, and absorb knowledge faster, so that you may save others!

The endurance of the Vietnamese in refugee camps—enduring so much suffering; the endurance of a Vietnamese person in a Communist re-education camp, enduring so much suffering; the endurance of the Vietnamese who dared to venture out onto the open sea to strive for a tomorrow granted by God: No matter how defiant one may be, defying Heaven and the Buddha, at that very moment they still know to chant, ‘Namo Amitabha Buddha’: ‘In the face of dangerous storms, who can save us but Heaven and the Buddha?’

Fellow Believer 2: Yes.

The Venerable Master: It was only then that they recognised the hand of God: upon mentioning the Benevolent Father, they quickly awoke to realisation and understood everything: as the circumstances and images of the Vietnamese people are spread across the Five Continents, everyone must awaken urgently!

God will use the Vietnamese people to awaken humanity in the material world; the Vietnamese have been entrusted with this task; only by being fully aware can they spread these true words to awaken others; and they will be saved, if they follow the true path.

Fellow Believer 2: Yes. [mp3.1-12:26]

The Master: Otherwise, let them destroy themselves for all eternity: in this coming era, there will be no more waiting for people to progress! If they refuse to progress, no one will wait for them any longer!

Disciple 2: Yes.

The Master: Therefore, the Will of Heaven is shifting; the whole world is in flux, not just Vietnam.

There are many dire situations now: people’s minds naturally become deranged—clinging to money until they go mad, beyond redemption unless they wake up soon! They do not die from shipwrecks, but on their own beds of money, and their souls are lost forever!

Fellow Believer 2: Yes, Master.

The Master: There are many extraordinary and spine-chilling cautionary tales all over the world, all across the globe! Yes, but you have not yet seen them; once you practise, you will see them—indeed, they happen every day—but they have not yet come together in such a way that you can see them more clearly!

But they do happen every day: acts of madness; people who are happy, living the good life, wealthy, with five wives and seven concubines, yet they jump off a balcony and die! They owe no one anything; they just jump, and that’s it—dead!

Ask: what is that? A billionaire! Many of you who read the papers will surely know: in Hong Kong, a billionaire—who owed no one anything—died!

Disciple 2: Yes.

The Master: Because he lacked the ‘garment’, he lacked the ‘attire of virtue’; he refused to cultivate his spirituality to perform virtuous deeds; he refused to fulfil God’s plan of love and morality; so he restricted himself too much, he had to go mad; he had to die an undeserved death, that’s why! Do you see?

Disciple 2: Yes.

The Master: That’s just one person; but with so many people, how could one possibly have the time to keep track of them all?

So, to put it simply for you to understand: often your nerves are on edge because you refuse to understand the inner workings of life, focusing only on the outer aspects; then you get annoyed and create chaos for yourselves!

It’s true, isn’t it? The people sitting here—it’s true, isn’t it? Do you see?

Disciple 2: Yes.

The Master: Therefore, you must return to yourselves, understand yourselves better: understand our duties more fully: we must amend our ways and repent; whether we do or do not, it does not matter; the important thing is simply to know, ‘Amend me so that I may attain enlightenment’.

That is enough: stability will follow.

Fellow Practitioner 2: Yes.

The Master: But if you do not know, you will never find stability!

Medication will not help you; your mental state is deteriorating, and if you do not save yourselves, how can you cultivate a clear and stable state of mind? Medication will not help you at all. [mp3.1-15:52]

Disciple 2: Yes.

The Master: Therefore, only the practice of meditation can resolve this for you—and the sooner, the better!

As for the rest, I find that other practices don’t work: they lead to confusion, and then you get caught up in this or that issue; family disputes can easily flare up again.

Disciple 2: Yes.

Teacher: But only through the practice of meditation can one gradually gain control, distance oneself from all turmoil, and slowly progress towards the light of God. Only then will we truly grasp the situation and resolve it ourselves.

I’ve been talking for quite a while now, so I’ll stop here (laughs)! [mp3.2-0:50]

Fellow Practitioner 2: What about those who have passed away in this world—should we let them know about God as well?

Teacher: Well, it depends; even so, in the Philippines, I also speak—I shout it out, and it comes out in English! Where did I learn to speak in such a moving way that it brings people to tears? (laughs)

Fellow Believer 2: Here, Mr Tam is teaching about English; I suppose the followers… (unclear).

Teacher: Eh? I don’t know; whenever I meet them, I speak; as soon as they open up… (unclear) then I give them acupuncture; I practise acupuncture whilst preaching, and word gets round, so they come; there’s no need to invite them! It happens naturally!

So, in the Philippines—the Philippines, that is—I invite this person to come and listen, that person to come and listen, and then I give them acupuncture;

Fellow Practitioner 2: Sir, I think that…

Teacher: There’s no public preaching! It’s passed on by word of mouth.

Fellow Practitioner 2: I notice that some Vietnamese people, whether practising our own tradition, or Cao Dai, or Hoa Hao, or other traditions such as Buu Huong Ky Son, and so on…, are all aware of this Divine Plan. Meanwhile, abroad, very few people know about it.

Teacher: It must be purified; because they’ve enjoyed it far too much! It’s not as if it’s Vietnamese soil! Are we to purify the whole world? That’s far too much! We should just focus on our own practice; we’ll assist others as circumstances allow: we’ll only guide those who are ready; but if they know too much, when we guide them, it becomes chaotic; and there aren’t many who actually practise! It’s very difficult.

Fellow Practitioner 2: Mr Tam, does ‘depending on circumstances’ mean speaking only as far as one can go; is that correct?

Teacher: It’s about supporting the path as circumstances allow; but it also depends on one’s own capacity. That said, the Dragon Deities are at work, handling all manner of things; it’s not just down to me! Nothing ever really comes to fruition! I can’t actually do anything; often I speak out, then realise how utterly foolish I am; I don’t know a thing! It’s those Above who are doing the work!

Fellow Practitioner 2: Sometimes I do that too,

Teacher: See? Just now, I ate a bit of sticky rice, a bit of cake, and then paid back so much money! I ate some very expensive food; I’m saying that’s paying it all back! (laughs)

It’s not like we’re eating like tigers; we’re not freeloading! We eat, and we pay it all back; however much we take, we pay that much back; we pay even more!

Sometimes, there are people who, after five or three years, take that advice to heart and it leads to a successful career, a home, and a peaceful mind!

So, those Westerners are very clever: they have to get paid to give talks! As for me, that’s not how it works!

Fellow Believer 3: Sir, may I tell you this: sometimes in France, Western friends would bring their mates along—a dozen or so of them—just to listen to me speak.

Teacher: Just go ahead and speak! Remember God, and speak.

Fellow Believer 3: Just speak; it’s up to them to take it on board.

Teacher: Don’t be upset with anyone; just speak; as long as what you say leads them towards God, you’re not at fault.

Fellow Believer 3: I advise them,

Teacher: Once our duty is done, when they arrive, we’ll meet them on the way and lead them straight in!

Fellow Practitioner 3: Yes, sir.

Teacher: It’s nothing at all: if you see they aren’t moving, but when the time comes, you simply go ahead and lead the way for them! What’s the big deal?

Fellow Disciple 3: Sometimes I feel I’m not yet wise enough—I don’t know why—but I see that the Divine Plan is unfolding ever more rapidly, yet I find that Europeans are still being terribly complacent.

Master: How are they supposed to understand? Let’s speak plainly! Now we’ll enlighten them so they understand: we’ll explain it step by step; we’ll just keep speaking; then Divine Grace will descend upon them!

Later on, they’ll also seek, search and believe; even unto death they’ll believe: they’ll understand, they’ll grasp the truth!

Fellow Practitioner 3: But I see that in the world today, Europeans and North Americans are seeking spiritual practice a great deal, Mr Tam; but they’re doing it for money, not because they’re truly seeking, Mr Tam. And there are so many offshoots of the path, Mr Tam!

Teacher: Me, back in the day, wherever I sat—even if it was just a cup—I’d sit there, never mind! I was constantly being beaten; Mrs Tam beat me all the time; my family beat me all the time; ‘I’ll practise even if it costs me my life; never mind! Die, so be it; I won’t even bother talking to those people!’

That girl in Hong Kong was even more reckless: she’d stick a chicken-feather duster up her nose, right up her nose; then she’d just walk off, head straight to a hut; she’d sit there meditating, not caring a jot! (laughs) She’d slap her belly with a ‘smack’; she’d still sit there meditating; whatever happens, happens! (laughs)

It’s great fun: the whole family’s messing about; we’re all messing about together! Children, grandchildren, relatives, brothers and sisters—we’re all messing about like mad, having a right old time! To hell with it, I won’t even bother talking to anyone!

(A fellow practitioner speaks, but it’s hard to make out. The Master laughs.)

The Master: People say clearly:

‘The spirit descends to the earthly realm of karma and the physical body
The Celestial Emperor bestows the Dharma to enlighten the world
The Long Hoa Assembly awaits to welcome
The union and separation of body and soul”

There you have it: that part of the divine light that descends into the world, bearing the consequences of karma—avoid it, avoid it!

That consequence is bound by limitations; do you see? There is no progress to be made; it is the consequence that reminds one to destroy that very thing.

“The Celestial Emperor bestows the Dharma to enlighten the world”: That is; in this day and age, realising the Way and cherishing the Way.

“The Long Hoa Assembly awaits us”: The balance of thought in the Higher Realm is the Long Hoa Assembly awaiting us: that (unclear) which, once unfolded, brings about the balance of thought.

“The union and separation of the spirit and soul”: That is; once ideological balance is achieved, one sees clearly—one sees one’s own spirit and soul, and the beautiful natural scenery arranged by Heaven and Earth; only then can we truly learn and distinguish more clearly between life and the Way.

“The union and separation of truth and falsehood across many layers
Our physical form is transient; it needs no rest”

There; do not dwell on trivial matters: one’s body is transient; indeed! And regarding the union of the true and the false: where there is reality, there must be illusion; where there is truth, there are errors before one’s very eyes! One should not rush into doing anything whilst doubting this or that, thereby causing further suffering. There!

“My body is transient; it needs no rest”: Do not scrutinise this or that; it is futile! Just focus on your practice.

“Teach them to temporarily set aside
greed and anger that stir up chaos, to establish a New People’s Way”

Teach one’s Six Sense Organs and Six Sense Objects to temporarily turn away from such matters—those doubts and misconceptions, those misguided desires. “

‘Greed, anger and delusion give rise to the New People’: Only when we have subdued greed, anger and delusion can we become a serene and enlightened person, a pure being for all.

“The profound mysteries of Creation are manifold”
“By receiving grace and understanding the layers of enlightenment”

“The profound mysteries of Creation are manifold”: The profound mysteries of Creation always guide us far more than we could ever comprehend through mere contemplation!

“Bestowing grace through listening and understanding”: This also serves as words to encourage others, just as it encourages oneself.

“Revealing the layers of enlightenment”: Once one has spoken one’s mind to one’s heart’s content, the mind becomes less agitated; this is the reason.

“What is real and what is not depends on oneself”
“The journey of genuine evolution continues”:

The matter of illusion and reality—is it not all created by ourselves? As long as it transforms between yin and yang, there remains both illusion and reality. “

‘The journey of true love’s evolution continues’: The journey we have set out on—to come here to learn and evolve—so let us hold fast to true love, keep moving forward, and stray no further from the path.

“Do not bury your attachments
For it breeds folly and brings unrest to the self”:

Do not bury them: the more you bury your own wisdom, the more greed and hatred will grow.

‘Creating foolishness brings restlessness’: It is that we create this foolishness, and because of it, we cannot find peace.

“The path of life and the path of the Way have many stages
Advance with the momentum of your own progress”

“The path of life and the path of the Way have many veils”: In life and on the spiritual path, there are many shifts and changes: when we fall, we are obscured by many veils; now, as we return, there are also many shifts and changes within our own evolutionary cycle. “Advance with momentum, rising up through one’s own efforts”: We rise up through our own efforts, without relying on anyone else; only by constantly maintaining self-control can we make progress.

“That which arises from emptiness is enduring
Do not let existence become the foundation of suffering”

“Existence within emptiness is enduring”: Even if one loses everything, it matters not; one must maintain the mind of Emptiness, preserving the profound serenity of Heaven and the Buddhas.

‘Do not let “Existence” become the foundation of suffering’: Therefore, whether it be this or that, this or that—whatever is given to us—we must not fight over it! It is acceptable to cherish it, to let it resolve all our inner thoughts; but we must not cling to it too tightly, for then we will suffer.

“The wondrous workings of Heaven’s design
Wherever one goes, one faces the Divine Plan”

That is it; ‘The wondrous transformation of Heaven’s Will’: Wherever one goes, there is retribution: reward and punishment, clearly so. Ah! “

Wherever you go, you face the Will of Heaven”: Whether you leave this land for another, it is the same: when we are in our homeland, our minds are burdened; now that burden is revived; it is also our own doing: if we resolve it, it will cease, and we will be in harmony with the Will of Heaven.

Moreover, wherever we go, we cannot escape the daily and nightly punishments and reminders from Heaven and Earth, which shape our means of survival. [mp3.2-11:38]

“With a clear mind, self-aware from this moment on
I take refuge in the true path, indifferent to the mundane world”

“A clear mind, self-aware from this moment on”: From this moment, we evolve; we need not wait for days or months any longer; it is over!

“Taking refuge in the True Dharma, indifferent to the material world”: We ascend, ever upwards, progressing towards the evolutionary cycle laid out in our pilgrimage; thus, we are indifferent to the material world: the material world holds no significance for us; we should not be in a hurry to concern ourselves with it—let it go!

Cultivation leads back to the source; that is what truly matters.

“Each blessing, each portion is sublime
Taking ‘nothingness’ as the foundation for our ascent”

“Sublime, each blessing, each portion”: Each person possesses their own unique lightness, their own, from the centre that guides their evolution.

“Take ‘nothingness’ as the foundation for progress”: Take this ‘nothingness’ as our purpose, rather than thinking, “I shall see the Immortal or the Buddha”; that is futile: “I must take ‘nothingness’ as my goal,” then the foundation for progress is laid, “Only then shall I progress, and only then shall I be able to transcend.” [mp3.2-12:34]

“May you progress steadily
May your mind attain the Dharma and the foundation of Non-Action”

There you have it! Strive to progress steadily by applying the theoretical insights outlined above—that is what constitutes steady progress.

‘May your mind attain the Dharma and reach the foundation of Wu Wei’: Devote all your steadfast, focused intention to attaining the Dharma; do not use your mind for worldly affairs. We must respond with a Dharma that is eternally enlightened, unmoving, and which eradicates all inner agitation and reaction. ‘Reach the foundation of Wu Wei’: Wu Wei is Emptiness; never again to be subject to agitation or reaction.

“When favourable conditions lead to sudden enlightenment,
In Emptiness yet with Consciousness, you shall meet me”

When favourable conditions lead to realisation, within Emptiness yet there is Being: one might think one would never meet me, yet today we have met. Then, whilst in meditative awareness, we are also apart: although our bodies are separate, our paths are eternally close, so that, always in harmony and in sync, we meet within the luminous Wuwei—even more intimately, lovingly and cherishingly than when we face each other now. [mp3.2-13:47]

“The community has prepared a seat
Advance to self-realisation, to live in peace and contentment”

“The community has prepared a dwelling”: Clearly, there is a place to eat and a place to live; those of us from Vietnam who have come here might have thought people were left to fend for themselves on the ground! We too have a place to eat and a place to sleep! That is what Heaven has arranged.

“Move forward to achieve a peaceful life”: As we move forward, we will also have a place to live; one might ask, “I’ve heeded Uncle Tam’s advice to leave this world? Where is my home, where is my bed?” There’s no need to worry about such matters! It’s quite clear: we came here from Vietnam, and we have these things; then, as we move on from here, we will have them too: this shows us a very clear lesson!

“Practise to attain wisdom and karmic affinity
Pass it on to the common people to relieve their inner distress”

Only when we have attained it do we borrow the Way and repay the Way: by passing it on to the world; when we have attained the Dharma, we pass it on to those who are suffering, in need, full of doubt and uncertainty, and those who are slow to progress—thus we “pass it on to all people to relieve their inner distress”: clearing away their distractions so they may return to their inherent goodness, to enjoy it for all eternity, just as we have and continue to do.

Therefore, strive to practise and cultivate, so that you may attain it swiftly, and then spread it to all sentient beings: those around us, we must endeavour to influence them, to guide their evolution through love and morality. These efforts may still face obstacles, but with our resolve, they will ultimately succeed.

Therefore, we must maintain a steadfast heart and a firm mind to make progress!

If we lack steadfastness of heart and firmness of mind, we are setting ourselves up for regression and slow progress.
